Breaking new ground — how a leading university established an innovative and dynamic digital event format for their incoming cohort of students

The Issue
Top-tier universities with a global reach face a particularly difficult moment in time, with many international borders closed, incoming students unable to commence their new chapter in a physical setting and uncertainty till when this situation will persist.
Especially for new cohorts, meeting each other, socializing and letting loose together forms an essential aspect of creating this special social glue, which is the building block for lifelong friendships and unique professional networks.
Presented with this struggle, one of the leading international universities in Berlin contacted us and tasked us with applying our special expertise for creating an innovative, dynamic event experience for their incoming cohort of 2020. Making use of our considerable experience, we’ve managed to create a truly unique and custom-tailored event format for their inaugural Kick-Off Party.
Our Solution
In this modern world of ours it is essential to create seamless and dynamic digital experiences, which allow for a feeling of non-linearity and proper discoverability, inspiring curiosity.
One week before the big event is scheduled, students receive a unique, personalized and nicely animated digital invitation sent to their emails, informing them of the upcoming decentralized party.
All the while we’ve started building an appealing and modern specialized event website, with a handcrafted interactive-responsive event map at its core.
Through this map, a dynamic exploration of the digital event site is possible and students can wander around, stopping by one of the two floors where exclusive DJs bring them to shake their bodies in appealing live streams, while simultaneously heading to the virtual dancefloor, where other enthusiastic students are already dancing and sharing an energetic lovely moment together from the comfort of their own homes all around the globe.
We know that dancing together is good fun and all, yet interaction is also of utmost importance. That’s why we created an engaging chill out lounge with differently themed rooms, where students could talk and hang out with each other.
In order to ensure an inclusive and respectful environment, we’ve incorporated our own self-developed digital awareness concept, which has a holistic approach and is visible throughout the event.
